Boarding with an IC card
Mobile IC or IC card registration is required before boarding.

When boarding directly from Shinkansen station
Just touch your IC card to the ticket gate and board the Shinkansen.
- A payment for the Shinkansen fare will be made from your registered credit card when making a reservation (not deducted from the balance of your IC card).
Entering from a conventional line
When entering from conventional line ticket gate, such as Tokyo Station's Marunouchi entrance, touch your IC card to both conventional line and Shinkansen ticket gate.
- If you are just passing through the conventional line concourse, the fare will not be deducted from the balance of your IC card.

Note that the following IC card balance is required to pass through the conventional line concourse.
- Suica area (all stations from Tokyo - Atami): at least the minimum boarding fare to at least the initial fare
- TOICA Area (all stations from Mishima - Nagoya): no balance required
- ICOCA Area (all stations from Maibara – Shin-Shimonoseki): at least 1 Yen
- SUGOCA Area (all stations from Kokura - Hakata): at least 10 Yen
When transferring between Shinkansen and conventional line
Using IC card for conventional lines
Touch your registered IC card at the ticket gate to board the trains (both conventional line and the Shinkansen).
- The fare for the conventional line will be deducted from the balance of your IC card.
- A payment for the Shinkansen fare will be made from your registered credit card when making a reservation (not deducted from the balance of your IC card).
Using tickets for conventional lines
First insert your conventional line ticket into the Shinkansen ticket gate, then touch your registered IC card.
Seat Information
Be sure to pick up "Seat Information" from the Shinkansen ticket gate.
If you do not have "Seat Information" with you, you will be subject to the basic fare and limited express ticket for the section and the facility used.
- You cannot use the "Seat Information" to enter/exit the ticket gate.
- A train crew will check your Seat Information on the train.
Boarding date/Fare
Validity is limited if marked as follows.
早特……Hayatoku: A type of fare.You cannnot travel on any other train/seat than those reserved. For details about "Hayatoku", see here

If you are transferring trains, then details of the transfer trains will be listed. You can reserve up to 3 train transits.
When you use a seat with an oversaized baggage area, an [S]mark will be displayed.

Important Notice
- When using tickets with an IC card, insert the ticket before touching your IC card to the Shinkansen ticket gate.
- Be sure to pick up "Seat Information" when using QR-Ticket to enter the ticket gate. If you do not have "Seat Information" with you, you will be subject to the basic fare and limited express ticket for the section and the facility used.
- You cannot use the "Seat Information" to enter/exit the ticket gate. Please do not insert it to the ticket gate.
- If you have forgotten your IC card, pick up your "tickets" from JR Central, JR West or JR Kyushu ticket vending machine or ticket pick-up machine using a pick-up code. (See here regarding how to pick up tickets)
Also, you can pick up your ticket at the ticket vending machines of JR East stations within Tokyo ward area, Yokohama city zone, Odawara station and Atami station. - If the IC card used for conventional lines and the IC card to board the Shinkansen are different, you cannot use them together. Please pick up a ticket at ticket vending machine.
- In some cases, your IC card may not respond if there is several IC card or card with an IC chip, such as IC license, is in your card wallet.
