How to board using tickets

Please pick up "tickets" purchased or reserved via the "Tokaido Sanyo Shinkansen Internet Reservation Service" from a ticket vending machine prior to boarding your Shinkansen train.

If a member himself/herself is using this service with a registered IC card, ticketless boarding is possible.

How to pick up "tickets" reserved using this service

Look for this logo.

"Tickets" reserved using this service can be picked up from ticket vending machines and ticket pick-up machines showing the EX logo at Tokaido Sanyo Shinkansen stations, as well as from ticket counters at major JR Central and JR West stations.
When transferring from a conventional line or entering from a conventional line ticket gate, please pick up your "tickets" from a ticket vending machine at the Shinkansen transfer entrance prior to boarding.

When boarding directly from a Shinkansen station, please pick up your "tickets" for this service and insert the "tickets" into the Shinkansen ticket gate prior to boarding. Your "tickets" are required for on-board ticket checks and exiting the station at your destination. Please do not lose or forget to pick up your tickets.

Please pick up all of your party's reserved "tickets" for this service from a ticket vending machine at the Shinkansen transfer entrance. First insert your "ticket" into the Shinkansen ticket gate, then touch your IC card to the sensor in order to enter the boarding area.

  • The fare for the conventional line travel portion will be deducted from the balance on your IC card.

Please pick up all of your party's reserved tickets for this service from a ticket vending machine at the Shinkansen transfer entrance. Please insert your conventional line ticket together with the "ticket" for this service into the Shinkansen transfer ticket gate to enter the boarding area.

  • Please insert the "ticket" for this service together with the conventional line ticket into the Shinkansen transfer ticket gate.
  • The ticket must be valid until the Shinkansen boarding station. (If the ticket is not valid up to the Shinkansen boarding station or valid beyond it, you will not be able to use the Shinkansen boarding station's automatic ticket gate at the transfer entrance.)
  • If you do not have a ticket for a conventioinal line boarding section after disembarking your Shinkansen train, please purchase a ticket from a fare adjustment machine or leave through the Shinkansen ticket gate and board the regular line train after purchasing a conventional line ticket, etc. from a ticket vending machine at the station.

Entering through a conventional line ticket gate at the Shinkansen boarding station

When entering through a conventional line ticket gate at the Shinkansen boarding station, such as through Tokyo Station's Marunouchi entrance, please enter using your IC card and pick up your "tickets" for this service from a ticket vending machine, etc. at the Shinkansen transfer entrance.

  • If you do not have an IC card, you cannot pass through the conventinal line concourse.
    Please enter after picking up your "tickets" from a ticket vending machine, etc. near the Shinkansen ticket gates.
    (When using Tokyo Station, please pick up your "tickets" from a JR Central ticket vending machine, etc. on the Yaesu side of the station.)
Entering through a conventional line ticket gate at the Shinkansen boarding station

Please touch your IC card to the sensor at a conventional line ticket gate and enter the regular line concourse, then pick up your "tickets" for this service from a reserved-seat ticket vending machine, etc. at the Shinkansen transfer entrance prior to entering the boarding area.

  • No fare will be deducted from your IC card when using it only to pass through the conventional line concourse.
  • However, the following IC card balance is required to pass through the conventional line concourse.

    • Suica area (stations between Tokyo and Atami): at least the minimum boarding fare
    • TOICA area (stations between Mishima and Nagoya): no balance required
    • ICOCA area (stations between Maibara and Hiroshima/Asa): at least 1 Yen
    • SUGOCA area (Kokura/Hakata stations): at least 10 Yen

Note

  • When using paper tickets or magnetic passes together with an IC card, please make sure to first insert the paper ticket or magnetic pass into the Shinkansen transfer ticket gate and touch the IC card to the gate sensor after.
  • In some cases the IC card may not be recognized if it is in a case with another IC card or another card containing an IC chip, such as an IC license.
