Taking Baggage Onboard

Reservation for the "Seats with oversized baggage area" or "Seats with an oversized baggage compatment" is required when taking oversized baggage with overall dimensions of 160cm or more and 250cm or less. Any oversized baggage carried onboard without a reservation is subject to a carry-on oversized baggage fee.

The details in the screen shots below (such as boarding date, train name, departure/arrival times, etc.) are examples for reference.

Make Reservation for the "Seat with oversized baggage area" and "Seat with the oversized baggage compartment"

Guidance

When making reservations for the following combination,please make individual reservations.

  • "Seat with the oversized baggage area" and ordinary reserved seat.
  • "Seat with the oversized baggage compartment" and ordinary reserved seat.
  • "Seat with the oversized baggage area" and "Seat with the oversized baggage compartment".
  • Check the seat availability on the seat map.

    The seat availability on "Select Train/ Facilities" and "Select Fare" screen is the availability for the entire train. There may be a case that the seat is available but not the "seat with oversized baggage area" and "seat with oversized baggage compartment".

  • It cannot be reserved through after-hours or pre-sale requests. Please make a reservation on the date tickets go on sale (1 month before the daparture date).
  • When you are making a transit, you must make a reservation for the "seat with oversized baggage area" for your entire trip. Non-reserved seat cannot be used. When your trip include transits, you cannot reserve "seat with the oversized baggage compartment" on Smart EX.
  • You can reserve "seats with the oversized baggage area" for 5 people per reservation (4 people per reservation for green cars), "seats with the oversized baggage compartment" for 5 people per reservation, but cannot reserve cross car numbers.
    If you want to make a reservation for more than the maximum number of people,or if you want to make a reservation across the number of cars, please divide it into multiple reservations.

    Number of persons that can be reserved in one operation differs in some trains.

How to Reserve

Tap "Reservation" from the menu.

Select boarding date, time of departure (or arrival), departure and arrival station, number of persons, and select "Bring Oversized Baggage".

Point!

a. If you select "Bring Oversized Baggage", only trains that have a "seat with oversized baggage area" will be displayed.

Tap "Continue".

Tap "Select" of your preferred train.

  • The seat availability for the entire train will be displayed on this screen. To check the availabilty for the "seats with oversized baggage area", tap "View seat map" on the next screen.

Select your desired fares/facilities and tap "View seat map".
Tap "Continue" if you are not selecting your seats.

  • The seat availability for the entire train will be displayed on this screen. To check the availabilty for the "seats with oversized baggage area", tap "View seat map".
  • There are no "seats with oversized baggage area" for non-reserved seats. Please select ordinary car reserved seat or Green car.
  • If you are making a reservation for more than 5 people, Green car cannot be selected. Please make a multiple operation.
  • There may be no "seat with oversized baggage area" for a seat near the smoking room.

Ref 1. About "View seat map"

  • Select your preferred seat and tap "Continue"
  • Cross-car reservation cannnot be made. Please make multiple reservations.
  • If you want to reserve a "Seat with the oversized baggage compartment", please select "Outside cabin" from "Other Cars".

Ref 2. Round-trip Reservation

  • When you select "Bring Oversized Baggage". For round-trip discounted fares, your reservation will be made with the "seats with oversized baggage area" for both outbound and return trip automatically.
  • When using a "seat with oversized baggage area" for only one-way, you must complete your reservation with the "seats with oversized baggage area" for both outbound and return trip first. Then, select "Outbound/Return trip only" from My Trips-Details screen and change your reservation by selecting "No Oversized Baggage".

Confirm that "Oversized Baggage" is displayed on the screen and tap "OK Purchase".

Reservation is complete and the email with reservation detail will be sent to your registered email address(es).

  • Confirm your reservation for a "seat with oversized baggage area" from My Trips - Detail screen or reservation confirmation email.
